This online exhibition showcases a selection of images from the archives of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. Offering a glimpse into an little explored anthropological practice, this unprecedented project brings to the public attention the multiple ways in which illustrations, drawings, and sketches have been variably applied to the anthropological project. Examining the fine line between anthropology and art, the exhibition raises questions about the role of images in the production of anthropological knowledge, highlighting the neglect experienced by this area of enquiry in the study of the visual in ethnographic fieldwork.
